How do I register?

You can register here and select your preferred test date. For questions about the registration process, please reach out to the British Council.

When will I receive my results?

Your online test results will be available in the participant portal 3–5 business days after the test date. For questions regarding results or certificates, please contact the British Council.

How is IELTS assessed?

The IELTS test evaluates listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills. Each skill is scored on a scale from 0 to 9, and there is an overall band score as well.

How long is the IELTS result valid?

The IELTS result is valid for two years from the date listed on the certificate.

Are there any breaks during the test?

No scheduled breaks are provided during the test. Bathroom visits are allowed, but not during the listening section, instructions, or the last 10 minutes of the reading and writing sections. Lost time cannot be made up.

How long does the exam take?
The written sections take approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes:
  • Listening: 30 minutes
  • Reading: 1 hour
  • Writing: 1 hour
  • The speaking test lasts 10–15 minutes.
How is the speaking test conducted?

The speaking test is conducted online via video conference with an examiner. All necessary equipment is provided by our test center. Learn more about this process here.

What should I bring to the test day?

You must bring the ID or passport used during registration. Any changes to this information must be reported to British Council before test day, as failure to do so may result in disqualification.

What if any of my contact details have changed?

Notify the British Council of any changes to your contact information in advance to avoid issues on test day.

Can I bring personal items into the test room?

No. Only your passport and a clear water bottle are allowed in the exam room. Other personal items must be stored in the provided lockers.
